Challenge in the Woods for July Match

(Match Report by Jeff P) July 14, 2024

With higher temperatures forecasted for the day of our July match, we decided to set up our woods course.  Twenty-seven participants joined us for the match.  Even early in the morning it was evident that it was going to be a warm day.  Temperatures were in the mid-eighties with sunny skies.  It helped being shielded from the sun under the tree canopy in the woods.  The winds were rather calm early on but later in the day we did have some noticeable wind which made people pay attention to some of the longer shots.

The Troyer for the course was 32.7, with 16 targets (53%) over 40 yards and an average target distance of 37.9 yards.

With Bill Rabbitt switching his Thomas over to a 12 ft-lb WFTF rig, it was going to be interesting to see who was going to claim the top spot in Hunter PCP.  At the end of the day, it was Dale Prulhiere taking first place with a score of 52.  Doug Cunningham was second with a 50 and one point behind was Eric Jones in third with a 49.

Larry Gromacki took first place in Open PCP with a score of 50 and with a score of 47 Roger Barker ended up in second place.

Even though he had just recently converted his Thomas to 12 ft-lb’s, Bill Rabbit did very well in his first match with this rifle scoring a 55 and taking top spot in WFTF PCP.  Lucas Marusiak finished only one point behind Bill in second with a 54 and Keith Walters placed third with a 53.

Matt Uhler did an amazing job with his TX200 in WFTF Piston scoring a 52 and placing first.

In Unlimited, there was a three-way tie for second place with scores of 52 so whoever did best on their positional lanes was given the award and that turned out to be Alan Barker.  Tim Baylor shot well and took the top spot with a score of 56.

After the match everyone was treated to pizza at the club house.  Several volunteers stayed to help clean up and tear down the course, which was greatly appreciated.
