High Troyer Rating and Long Day on the Course for June Match

(Match Report by Tyler Patner)

Gorgeous weather accompanied our June 18th match, which also happened to be Father’s Day. 31 shooters joined us for a very tough match on our woods course. Tough, not only because of the course difficulty, but also because of the conditions. Some very tricky winds plagued many shooters through the day, as did the sparse lighting that broke through the tree canopy.

The course was long (as has become quite typical) but many of the mid-range targets were reduced to increase the challenge a bit. We also switched up many of the lanes, opting to use only a handful of the lanes used in last month's match. 17 targets were over 40 yards, with an average target distance of 39 yards. The troyer was just over 34T for the match, before wind and lighting were factored.

With over 30 shooters on the course, it was a slow slog of a day. Many found it tough to stay sharp mentally over the 5 hours we spent on the course, and I don’t blame them. While the temps were right around 80 degrees, there were a lot of mosquitos and flies buzzing around that definitely got your attention whether you were shooting or not.

As shooters came off of the course, there were some very solid scores throughout. Everyone was treated to pizza, while Bill and Jeff logged the scores. In a very competitive Unlimited division, Dave Hitchcock posted a 55 to earn the top spot, edging out Alan Barker by one, and Tim Baylor by two.

In Hunter PCP, we had 12 shooters, with Bill Rabbitt dropping a 55 to take 1st place. Followed by Dan Putz and Jeff Swartz, both on 50s. In Hunter Piston, Al Duster posted a 42, which may be his personal best at NOA. Nice shooting!

WFTF Piston had two shooters, with Matt Uhler and his trusty TX200 beating John Cerne with a solid 43/60. WFTF PCP saw Jeff Paddock take the top spot with a 52. Great way to cap off a birthday weekend if I do say so myself! And in Open PCP, Ted Andro and his majestic beard shot a 54 for the win.

Great shooting to all, and thank you for choosing to spend your Father’s Day with us! We look forward to seeing everyone back in July, on the 23rd for our next match! And don’t forget, if you haven’t signed up for Nationals yet, registration is open and filling up fast, so be sure to get yourself registered!

Until next time, stay safe, and we will see you on the lanes!
