Going into our August match we knew things were going to be a bit different knowing we would be without a few of our members who normally have a hand in setting up our courses. One notable missing individual was Tyler, our match director and course designer, who was away with the others club members in Northern Ireland at the World Field Target Federation World Championship. So, on Saturday a small group of volunteers oversaw the course design and set up. Dan Putz offered the idea of having more smaller hit-zones at expert level (troyer) distances rather than more distance shots. I replied to Dan, “you do know we’re both shooting springers don’t you?” Dan seemed undeterred by his suggestion, and we carried on setting the course. In the end, the troyer for the course was about 33.4T without wind or lighting factored. Ten targets were 25 yards and under and 13 targets had full size hit-zones. There were 9 targets past 45 yards with 6 of those at 50 yards or over.

Although some rain seemed to have passed through in the early morning, as was evident by the wet roads driving to the club, Sunday turned out to be a rather pleasant day, although a bit humid, with temperatures in the upper 70’s and low 80’s with a mix sun and clouds throughout the day. There was very little wind in the woods although we usually have a lane or two with “mystery” wind that affects your shots even though it appears dead calm.

We had a smaller group than normal this match with a total of 20 participants, including one new Junior competitor.
In Hunter PCP the three top scores were separated by only one shot. Brandon Michaud took third place with a score of 55 and Cam Armstrong was second with a score of 56. Steve Hockenberry earned top honors with a 57.

We had a few classes with only one participant. In Open PCP, Roger Barker had a 41 and in WFTF PCP, Jeff Weiss scored a 49. Gordon Mueller, a first-time Junior participant, did very well with a 40.
Jeff Paddock had fewer springer issues than his other two competitors and was able to score a 41 to take first in WFTF Piston.
Tim Baylor and Alan Barker dueled it out in Unlimited with Tim ending up with a 54 and Alan having a score of 48.

After the match we gathered in the clubhouse to have some pizza and announce the awards. When we were finished several volunteers stayed to help clean up the course, which we appreciated.

We hope to see you all again soon on the lanes.
Take care!
